June 15th -Backup Protocols

Which protocol (local or cloud base) is best for me?

Which media, protocol is best for backup?

The need to back up your data is extremely important, and we sometimes lack the knowledge of what backup type should I use, how to perform backups and most importantly, how to store it.

Ron Brooks, President of MacChUG -The Chico Apple Users Group, will review backup pro-tocols for our iOS and macOS devices. He will discuss various local and cloud based backup systems and other related items of interest.

Bring your questions and concerns about your personal backup decisions and learn about the different types and the pros and cons of each system.

Our resident experts can assist you with your hardware or software questions you may have. Whether you have questions about installing the latest version of software or need recommendations regarding your Apple devices, services or want assistance with your device.

They will be able to help you by providing solutions to your situation or depending on the complexity of your question, or refer you to an appropriate “help” source.

April 20th – Pages presentation by Ron Brooks

7:30PM to 9:00PM – Ron Brooks will do a presentation of Pages. The MacU all Access training tutorial for your Mac, iPad or iphone has been purchased by many of our members. Ron Brooks will share with us some helpful and important tips in the tutorial on Pages.

Pages is a powerful word processor developed by Apple Inc. Pages is Microsoft Word friendly, you can save Pages documents as word files; or import and edit Word documents right in Pages.

March 16th -Drew Swanson, CEO of The Mac U

The Mac University tutorials Our guest speaker this month will be Drew Swanson, CEO of a company that provides online tutorials for Macs and iOS devices. This company was very generous in providing our members with an “All-Access” pass for one year to all their training lessons. And many of our members took advantage of this offer.

Experienced members will host Special Interest group discussions at 6:30 PM for iOS, as well as iPad and iPhone use. If you’d like to learn more about your Mac, iPhone or iPad, plan to come early. Visitors are always welcome and annual membership dues are only $25.00.

Feb 16th – Photo Management

Linda Perry Presents Photo Management at 7:30pm. 

Most of us use our iPhones or iPads to take pictures … of family, friends, pets, events, travel, etc. But how do you get those pictures onto your computer for safe keeping? What happens when you run out of room on your phone? That’s where iCloud Photo Library or My Photo Stream come into play. But which one should you use? We’ll talk about iCloud options and album creation as a means to organize your pictures.

Ron Brooks will also conduct a brief Q&A in one of our “back rooms” for Clean My Mac 3 and MacU “All-Access” code installation. If either of these issues are of interest, come at 6:30 for this discussion.

Jan 19th – Simplify your Digital Life

The Chico Apple Users Group (MacChUG) will convene on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017, at the Veterans Hall, 554 Rio Lindo Ave., Chico for their monthly general meeting.

During our general meetinevernote instructiong, Myron Flindt will focus on digital organization. Myron, a former Evernote Community Leader and MacChUG’s Vice President, will show how you can simplify your digital life. His presentation will emphasize setting up and maintaining digital routines for documents, emails, photos, calendars, personal planning and meals.

Dec 15th – Myron Flindt Presents Popular Holiday Gifts

The December meeting of MacChUG, the Apple Users Group of Chico, will look at popular Apple gifts for the holidays. This will include reviews of Apple TV, the Apple watch, Apple Airpods and much more.


Myron Flindt, our club’s vice president , will provide reviews of these popular Apple products, share amazing accessories for Mac and IOS, and show the best apps of 2016 for the iPad and iPhone.

If you are looking for great gift ideas for your family, friends or yourself, join us for our December meeting. Newcomers are always welcome.

Nov 17th – Londa Coy Presents Photoshop Elements 15

downloadOur speaker this month will be Londa Coy, our resident Photoshop expert, and her topic will be Photoshop Elements 15, a brand new version from Adobe. Her presentation will cover an overview of managing photographs with PSE 15. For all you photography enthusiasts, now will be a good time to learn what you can do to enhance and improve those priceless pictures.

You can come at 6:30 and participate in our iPad/iPhone and Novice special inter-est groups or browse our library for books, manuals and CDs that may help you be-come more proficient.

There should be plenty of parking on either side of the Vets Hall as well as in front of the building.

October 20th – Apple Major Upgrades features for Mac OS Sierra & iOS 10

Our speaker this month will be Program Director, Ron Brooks. His topic will cover the new features of Apple’s major software upgrades, Mac OS Sierra and iOS 10. He will include a discussion of the process of upgrading both platforms and some little used features of the Mac OS.

You can come at 6:30 and participate in our iPad/iPhone and Novice special interest groups or browse our library for books, manuals and CDs that may help you become more proficient.

September 15th – Traveling with your iPhone and iPad

To kick off our new season, we’re pleased to enlist the services of respected OLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) teacher Linda Perry. Linda has a Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology and has served as a consultant with Apple.

Her topic for the general meeting at 7:30 will be “Traveling with your iPhone and iPad”. She’s convinced we don’t need to take lots of reference material so come and learn about a variety of apps, podcasts, and ways to set up your mobile devices so that you can use them effectively for planning your trip while traveling or on vacation.
